On Saturday 24th October, members of the Saint Wulstan Pastoral Area gathered at St Patrick’s Church, Brockworth, for a special celebration under the theme ‘Oaks of Righteousness – Growing Together in Christ’. Inspired by the words of the prophet Isaiah, the oak tree provided a powerful symbol for the occasion. Growing from a small acorn into something strong and enduring, an oak needs time, nourishment and deep roots. So too does our faith, which is rooted in Christ and strengthened through prayer, the sacraments and our relationships with one another.

The gathering brought together parishioners, priests and deacons from across the pastoral area for a day of prayer, celebration and fellowship, strengthening our sense of belonging as one Catholic community. The celebration centred on Mass, with Father Gary Brassington, Dean of the Saint Wulstan Pastoral Area, as principal celebrant.
A special moment in the celebration was the blessing of the young oak saplings and specially prepared candles. Before the final blessing, these were distributed to representatives of each parish to take back to the pastoral area churches, schools and religious communities. The saplings are more than simply trees to be planted; they represent the hopes and aspirations of our pastoral area. As they take root and grow, they will serve as a lasting reminder of our shared commitment to growing together in faith.
In many ways, the gathering felt like the planting of an acorn itself with the potential to grow into something much greater. Our hope is that this celebration will be the starting point for deeper relationships, greater collaboration and a stronger sense of community across the Saint Wulstan Pastoral Area, with Christ always at its centre.
May the Lord continue to nurture our communities, so that together we may become oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.
