Wednesday 28th May – Jubilee Year of Hope
As part of the Saint Wulstan Pastoral Area Pilgrimage and in celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope, you are warmly invited to join a special coach pilgrimage to two sacred and inspiring sites: the peaceful rural church of St Mary’s, Hawkesbury, and the magnificent Clifton Cathedral.
This coach trip offers a chance to join in the final day of the Saint Wulstan Southern Way pilgrimage. While some pilgrims will be completing the full walking route—from Worcester to Clifton over several days—this trip gives everyone in our pastoral area the opportunity to unite in spirit and purpose, walking together in hope, prayer, and community.
Two beautiful destinations, rich in meaning:
-
St Mary’s, Hawkesbury is a hidden gem nestled in the South Gloucestershire countryside, just outside our pastoral area. This ancient and peaceful church stands as a spiritual waypoint on the journey to Clifton. Pilgrims walking the Saint Wulstan route will have passed through here, and our visit allows us to follow in their footsteps—quite literally—as we share in this moment of reflection and community where Saint Wulstan himself once prayed, offered Mass and took a lifetime vow.
-
Clifton Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Saints Peter and Paul, is a striking modern space that welcomes pilgrims from across the diocese. With its soaring architecture, serene chapel spaces, and welcoming community, it is a perfect place to conclude our journey. After tea and biscuits on arrival, we will be invited to walk the Pilgrim Stations, which guide us through moments of reflection, before we come together in a moving Vigil Mass for the Ascension at 5:00pm—joining with those who have completed the full pilgrimage on foot.
